I love this parallel to how the internet used to feel, "But the stories were immediate, and tender, and small, too personal for the spaces in they were displayed. In this way, they were like the love stories that had crowded an earlier and more naive version of the internet."

I saw someone recently refer to Twitter as a "sad machine" and while these sickness stories were no doubt sad, they also brought people together in those early days of the pandemic. That felt so different, so much more intimate, than the way I typically experience Twitter on a daily basis.
